About Our Farmer

At Tallo Skin, we believe that true nourishment begins at the source. The quality of our tallow is deeply connected to the way the animals are raised and the land they graze on. That is why we choose to work closely with farmers who share our values of care, respect, and gentle stewardship towards these beloved creatures.
This is John. The farmer whose care for his family's land and the animals that roam it helps us create the replenishing, nutrient-rich grass-fed tallow for skin found in our products.

A Legacy Held in the Hands of One Family

John’s family farm has been passed down through generations, always ingraining a deep respect from its carers. He grew up only a few kilometres from where he lives now and has spent his life connected to the rhythms of the soil and the hums of the animals.

Where Work and Life Flow Together

After 45 years working as a butcher, always sourcing directly from his own paddocks, John returned to the farm full-time (after the passing of his father), passing down the butcher shop to his son. Now, his days revolve around the animals, the weather, shifting paddocks, and long stretches of open air. To him, this change didn’t signal more work but a new hobby, a new passion.

Life on the Farm

Most days are straightforward and steady. Moving cattle to fresh paddocks. Mulching grass back into the earth. Visiting the weekly cattle sales. Spending time with his grandkids. And always accompanied by Pippa, his loyal farm dog. It is a life guided by seasons, weather, and instinct, never too much hurry.

How Grass-Fed Farming Creates More Nourishing Skincare

The cattle here spend their days roaming on the same open grasslands John has tended his whole life. Because they graze only on natural pasture, the tallow takes on a warm, golden hue. This is a natural sign of beta-carotene and the skin-loving vitamins that make tallow for skin so soothing and supportive to the skin barrier. No grains, synthetic feed or rushed growth. Just healthy soil, slow seasons, and the quiet care of someone who knows his land well.

A Commitment to Regenerative Practices

When John returned to the farm full-time, he initially followed the conventional approach of using super and lime. But he remembered how his father farmed before those methods were common, and he felt there had to be a healthier way to care for the land. He began learning from regenerative farmers and soil health educators, exploring practices that focus on restoring biology in the soil rather than forcing growth. As the soil strengthened, the grass did too. And in turn, the cattle thrived. This is why the tallow we use in our moisturiser and tallow balm feels so restorative. It comes from land that has been nurtured, not pushed.

Why We Choose to Source From John

We choose to source our tallow from John because how the land is cared for, the soil is nurtured, and where the animals graze all contribute to what makes smooth and effective Tallow. That care is reflected in the final product. The tallow remains pure and nutrient-rich, exactly as nature intended. From John’s farm to your skin, every step is considered and respectful.
