Why We Only Use Suet | Premium Australian Tallow Skincare

Why We Only Use Suet for Our Tallow Skincare

At Tallo Skin, we often get asked:

"Why do you only use suet? Isn't all beef tallow the same?"

The short answer is no.

Not all tallow is created equal.

Just as not every cut of beef is the same, not every type of fat from an animal offers the same qualities. While many tallow skincare brands use general body fat, we've chosen a much slower, more intentional path.

We use 100% Australian grass-fed and grass-finished suet in every jar of our SKIN Tallow Cream because we believe exceptional skincare starts with exceptional ingredients.

It's a choice that takes longer, costs more, and limits how quickly we can produce our skincare—but we believe it's worth it.

Here's why.

What Is Suet?

Suet is the firm, nutrient-rich fat that naturally surrounds the kidneys and loin of cattle.

Unlike general body fat found beneath the skin or throughout the carcass, suet has a unique structure and has traditionally been regarded as the highest-quality fat for cooking, candle making, soap making and skincare.

Most importantly...

There's only a small amount of suet on each animal.

This means every jar of Tallo Skin represents far more than simply rendering fat. It represents a conscious decision to prioritise quality over quantity.

Why Don't We Use General Body Fat?

Many tallow skincare brands use fat collected from across the animal.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this.

Rendered correctly, it still produces tallow that many people enjoy using.

However, after researching traditional rendering methods and working closely with our Australian farmer, we chose a different approach.

We believe suet offers the cleanest, most premium starting point for skincare.

Because there is so little of it available from each animal, it naturally slows production.

But that's exactly the point.

Our goal has never been to become the biggest tallow skincare brand.

Our goal has always been to create the highest-quality tallow skincare we possibly can.

Why Suet Is Ideal for Skincare

One of the reasons beef tallow has become so popular is because of its remarkable compatibility with human skin.

Tallow naturally contains fatty acids that closely resemble those found in our own skin barrier.

This is one of the reasons many people find beef tallow skincare deeply nourishing, particularly if they have dry, mature or sensitive skin.

Suet provides an excellent foundation for producing a rich, luxurious tallow that feels beautiful on the skin when carefully rendered.

At Tallo Skin, we believe that beginning with the best raw ingredient allows us to create the best possible finished product.

Why Choosing Premium Ingredients Matters for Sensitive Skin

One of the reasons we're so particular about using only suet is because many of our customers come to us looking for a simpler approach to skincare.

Whether your skin is naturally dry, sensitive or prone to irritation, the quality of every ingredient matters.

While our products are not intended to treat or cure skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, our customers often tell us they're looking to avoid long ingredient lists and instead choose products made with ingredients they recognise and trust.

That's why our Skin Tallow Cream was formulated with just two ingredients: our regeneratively farmed Australian grass-fed and grass-finished suet and organic jojoba oil.

This simple formulation helps nourish the skin barrier without unnecessary fillers, making it a popular choice for people wanting a gentle, everyday moisturiser for dry and sensitive skin.

Rich in Naturally Occurring Fat-Soluble Vitamins

One reason people have used beef tallow on skin for generations is because it naturally contains fat-soluble vitamins, including:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin K

These nutrients, along with naturally occurring fatty acids, help support the skin's natural barrier and keep skin feeling nourished and comfortable.

When combined with carefully selected botanical ingredients, they create a moisturiser that's simple, effective and deeply nourishing.

We Know Exactly Where Our Suet Comes From

One of the things that makes Tallo Skin different is that we don't simply purchase anonymous ingredients through large wholesalers.

We know our farmer personally.

We've walked the paddocks.

We've seen first-hand how the cattle are raised.

We know the land.

We know the family.

Our suet comes exclusively from 100% Australian grass-fed and grass-finished cattle raised using regenerative farming practices on the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales.

That relationship gives us complete confidence in every batch we create.

Why Regenerative Farming Matters

Healthy skincare starts long before ingredients reach the jar.

It begins with healthy soil.

Regenerative farming focuses on improving soil health, increasing biodiversity and working with nature rather than against it.

Healthier pastures support healthier animals.

Healthier animals provide higher-quality ingredients.

By choosing regenerative Australian farms, we're supporting farming practices that care for both the land and future generations.

We Honour the Whole Animal

This is something that's incredibly important to us.

Our tallow is not the reason cattle are raised.

It is a by-product of Australia's meat industry.

Rather than allowing this beautiful, nutrient-rich fat to go to waste, we believe it should be transformed into something useful.

Historically, every part of an animal had value.

Nothing was wasted.

At Tallo Skin, we believe in returning to that philosophy—honouring the whole animal by making thoughtful use of a valuable resource that might otherwise be discarded.

For us, that's a far more respectful approach than allowing it to become waste.

Why We Produce in Small Batches

Because we only use suet, our production is naturally limited.

We simply can't produce the same volume as brands that use general body fat.

And we're okay with that.

Every batch is rendered slowly and carefully before being blended with high-quality ingredients like organic jojoba oil and selected botanicals.

This slower approach allows us to maintain consistency and quality from batch to batch.

Why We Don't Cut Corners

As Tallo Skin has grown, one question has come up time and time again:

"Will you ever change your ingredients so you can produce more?"

Our answer remains the same.

No.

It would certainly be easier.

It would certainly allow us to scale faster.

But it wouldn't align with why we started.

Every decision we make begins with one question:

"Is this the best choice for the customer?"

If the answer is no, we don't do it.

Why Thousands of Australians Have Switched to Tallow Skincare

People are increasingly looking for skincare that's simpler.

Fewer ingredients.

Greater transparency.

Products they can understand.

That's why beef tallow skincare has experienced such a resurgence.

At Tallo Skin, we've taken that traditional ingredient and paired it with carefully selected complementary ingredients to create skincare that's suitable for everyday use.

Whether you're looking for a moisturiser for dry skin, mature skin or simply want to simplify your skincare routine, we believe starting with exceptional ingredients makes all the difference.

Why We Believe Quality Will Always Win

There are faster ways to build a skincare company.

There are cheaper ingredients.

There are easier production methods.

But none of those feel true to who we are.

We choose suet because we believe quality begins with the raw ingredient.

We choose regenerative Australian farming because we believe where an ingredient comes from matters.

We choose small batches because we believe consistency matters.

And we choose transparency because we believe you deserve to know exactly what you're putting on your skin.

That's the Tallo Skin difference.

And it's one we'll never compromise on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is suet better than regular beef fat for skincare?

While all properly rendered beef tallow can be used in skincare, we choose suet because it's the premium fat surrounding the kidneys and loin. We believe it provides the highest-quality starting point for our formulations.

Is your tallow grass-fed?

Yes. Every jar of Tallo Skin is made using 100% Australian grass-fed and grass-finished suet.

Is your tallow ethically sourced?

Yes. Our tallow is a by-product of the Australian meat industry and comes from cattle raised on regenerative farms on the South Coast of New South Wales.

Why doesn't every brand use suet?

There's simply much less of it available. Using general body fat allows larger production volumes. We've intentionally chosen a slower approach because quality is our priority.

Is Tallo Skin made in Australia?

Yes. Every product is handcrafted in Australia using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
